In Syria all google software and google code was blocked in the country due to those US government sanctions programs.

GAN is the largest and most prominent network of accelerators in the world. Championed by TechStars, the Global Accelerator Network was created in 2010 under the management of some of the top accelerator programs and alongside the White House’s Startup America Initiative. With that, Flat6Labs becomes the first accelerator in Africa to join GAN.

By joining GAN, Flat6Labs would have expanded its network and reach from a regional to a global scale. Flat6Labs will now have access to a larger group of investors, mentors and entrepreneurs. This will help connect the program’s member entrepreneurs to global partners and investors with whom they can collaborate and grow. Each of Flat6Labs’ companies will also receive over $100,000 worth in free perks from over 25 of the best vendors in the world as well as many training opportunities.

Opera Software today released the beta version of Opera 12, codenamed “Wahoo”, the latest entry in Opera’s long line of desktop web browsers. Opera 12 is both smarter and faster than its predecessors and introduces new features for both developers and consumers to play with ahead of the final launch. Discover Opera 12 for yourself at http://www.opera.com/browser/next.

The new browser is fully localized in to new languages Arabic, Farsi, Urdu and Hebrew with a a remodeled interface for right-to-left scripts.
Customizable themes

Themes give you an easy way to change the look of Opera to suit your tastes or your mood. Just select a new theme and — voila! — your new-look browser awaits. To try a theme for Opera 12 beta, visit .
http://addons.opera.com/themes.

Themes are also easy to make. If you want to try your hand at making a theme for Opera, learn how to do it here: http://dev.opera.com/articles/view/operas-lightweight-themes..
A separate process for plug-ins

Plug-ins are a leading cause of browser instability, so Opera gave them their own process. This way, when a plug-in crashes, it doesn’t take Opera down with it.
Faster by being smarter

Opera gained speed improvements by further optimizing the network SSL code and used smarter tab loading to accelerate start-up and shut-down times.
Camera support

Opera 12 shows some of the new tricks available to web developers by supporting getUserMedia, an API that allows web applications to use hardware like your computer’s built-in web cam. To try some demo applications when you’ve downloaded Opera 12 Beta, click here:
Photo Booth
Polaroid
Color Picker
Explode
Native pages in the browser

What if webpages could be laid out like a book with pages that can format automatically to the screen size? What if it only took a few lines of CSS code? The project was formerly known as Opera Reader, but Opera are opening it up for standardization as CSS3 Generated Content for Paged Media.

Opera upgraded its innovative security badge to make it easier to understand the security and privacy policies of the sites you visit. You can quickly see if a site is using your location information or wants to turn on your web cam.
Extensions extended

The Opera extension platform becomes more powerful with the introduction of a Windows and Tabs APIs that allow extensions to control the windows and tabs in the browser.
Other cool things like:
64-bit versions for Mac and Windows
Support for the Do Not Track header
CSS3 Animations and Transitions
HTML5 Drag and Drop
Support for CORS — not the beer, but rather Cross-Origin Resource Sharing
Opt-in hardware acceleration and WebGL

“Woo-hoo! After months of hard work, we’re nearing the finish line on Opera 12,” said Haakon Wium Lie, CTO, Opera Software. “There are so many new things to try. The paged media project has the potential to change the way browsers handle content, and camera support shows just how web applications can compete with native apps. With so many new features, especially for developers, Opera 12 is a platform to build upon. We’re excited to share it with the world and see what people can create.”

In Blog post announcing that google has added Jerusalem old city to Google maps street view Google has recognized Jerusalem as an Israeli city the post reads “
Every year, 3.5 million people come to Israel to visit ancient sites that are holy to billions of people, to walk among the unique stone of Jerusalem, or to relax on the beaches of the Mediterranean. “
“To help you explore Israel’s history and present, we’ve launched imagery of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv-Jaffa and Haifa on Street View.”

However there is no mention to Islamic holly sites in Jerusalem like Al Aqsa Masjed and Dome of Shrine Masjed.

Google has done a mistake by recognizing the old city as part of “Israel” and this is expected to damage its image among Muslims worldwide. It is worth mentioning that the Current CEO and the other cofounder of Google are Jews.

Here are the places from Palestine Google added to street view:

“You can explore the narrow streets of Jerusalem’s Old City and each of its four quarters, walk along the Via Dolorosa and see the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, visit the Western Wall and the Mount of Olives. You can stop by the Biblical Zoo, then visit the Israel Museum and the Yad Vashem Holocaust museum—and explore more with the Art Project and the Yad Vashem photo archive. Or you can stroll through Tel Aviv’s bohemian Neve Tzedek neighborhood and the ancient port of Jaffa, and take a virtual trip to some of Tel Aviv’s scenic beaches or to Haifa’s Baha’i Gardens. “

DSO earned Dh308.6 million in operating revenue in 2011.
DSO-based companies operate in various industries including software research and development as well as chip design and development for consumer goods, education and the service sectors. In addition, a range of companies work in the chemical products, semiconductors and solar energy space, and also offer communications and security solutions for sectors such as oil and gas, power, utilities, telecom operators, transport and fiber optics. “

Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority recently launched the Silicon Oasis Founders (SOF), a technology incubation center wholly owned by the authority. SOF aims to support Dubai Silicon Oasis-based ventures in the seed phase that prefer co-investment from regional investors for business models in the mobile e-commerce, apps or Internet technology space.

The center will additionally offer support to technologies that need short incubation time from 3 to 12 months, and low investment or to support existing business models in the market; which posses the potential for further growth. As part of the selection criteria, new ventures should be scalable with a capacity to generate a minimum turnover of AED20 million.

Entrepreneurs with an existing business looking to boost performance or even seeking partial or complete funding are welcome to contact SOF on bizplan@dso.a

Saudi Arabia occupied the first rank among the countries with the highest proportion of mobile phone users in the world with a ratio of 188%, followed by Vietnam and Oman in the second and third places respectively, according to a recent study.
The study conducted by the United Nations Conference on Trade and development (UNCTAD) indicated that this percentage is by far the highest when compared to the other Arab Gulf states which in turn filled advanced positions in the list with Oman being ranked second with a rate of 165%, followed by Kuwait (160%) and the UAE (145%) respectively.
In his comment on the results, the Mobile Channels Company’s (MCC) General Manager, Salem Alenzi, said: “The kingdom of Saudi Arabia has scored a high growth percentage in the number of mobile phone users between the years 2005 and 2010. This proportion duplicated three times over this five year period, while it did not exceed a ratio 59% in 2005.”
Alenzi added: “It is remarkable that the Arab Gulf states occupied the world’s first ten positions in the list. This can be attributed to the positive economic situation which these countries are witnessing and the increasing number of consumers with high purchasing power, besides the growing presence of foreign workers who constantly communicate with their employers and countries of origin.”
The specialized report also revealed that the number of mobile phone users is escalating among teenagers and 9-year-old children, and that this trend is chiefly driven by the widespread use of the Internet in the Saudi community. The study explained that the Internet is the main source for hundreds of thousands of the most frequently downloaded applications and programs on smart devices which enable users to browse the web content including social networking sites, business applications, data processors, chat programs, protection tools, games and much more.
Alenzi highlighted the economic aftermaths of the high rates of mobile phone use in the area which, in turn, led to introducing new companies specialized in developing electronic work environments while inspiring old firms, with sound recording and TV production businesses being on the top, to revolutionize their existing electronic platforms to keep pace with the latest mobile phones.
According to Alenzi, the demand for smart phone applications whose market share amounts to almost $12 billion is expected to rise within the few coming years in light of the widespread of low-cost 3G and 4G smart phone devices and the availability of country-wide telecommunication networks offering high connectivity and download speeds for smart devices.

Reporters Without Borders condemned the arrests and trials of netizens in the United Arab Emirates, yesterday. It also listed the UAE as a country “under surveillance” in its 2012 report on “Enemies of the Internet.”

“The Emirati authorities are cracking down harder on bloggers and netizens who criticize the regime,” Reporters Without Borders said. “March has seen a wave of arrests, attacks and acts of intimidation. We urge the government to abandon these methods. The authorities must stop arresting netizens and bloggers for what they post online and must guarantee their safety.”

In a “post” in its site Reporters Without Boarders published names of some of the Emarati activist who were arrested or attacked for their online activism specifically on Twitter:

“Saleh Al-Dhufairi, a netizen who is very active on social networks (@SalehAlDhfairi), was finally released on bail on 20 March after being arrested on 9 March and held in Abu Dhabi’s Al Wathba prison. He is charged with using Twitter to “incite sedition” and “abuse religion.”
Dhufairi has been covering sensitive subjects such as the “UAE 7,” a group of pro-democracy activists whose citizenship was withdrawn after calling on the government to carry out political reforms and organize elections, and criticizing the state security department’s meddling in political matters. He is to be tried by a state security court but no trial date has so far been set.
The blogger Juma Al-Felasi (@jalfelasi) was attacked by an unidentified group as he was driving in Dubai on 6 March. His assailants pulled him out of his car and beat him, accusing him of sullying the image of the UAE’s rulers. Felasi is known for criticizing government policies and calling for democratic reforms in his blog posts.
The continued close monitoring of the Internet is evident from the immediate reprisals against anyone posting content that is not to the government’s liking. The police do not hesitate to intimidate opposition bloggers and netizens using social networks.
Mohammed Abdul Razzaq Al-Siddiq, one of the “UAE 7,” was arrested at his home without a warrant in the northeastern emirate of Al Sharjah at 4 a.m. on 24 March following a comment on Twitter accusing the emirate’s ruler, Sultan Al-Qassimi, of discriminating against the UAE’s large expatriate population. He was released later in the day after paying a fine, and will not be prosecuted.
Another “UAE 7” member, activist Ahmed Ghaith Al Suwaidi, was arrested in Abu Dhabi on 26 March along with Judge Ahmed Yousef Buatabh Zaabi, a fellow activist. The police did not have a warrant and the two men are still being held although no charge has been brought against them.
Dubai police chief Dhahi Khalfan used Twitter to warn human rights activist Khalifa Al-Nuaimi (‎@Alnuaimi_k) that police were coming to arrest him 13 March:
Translation: You are wanted by the judicial authorities… We are transparent… You’d be advised to surrender.
[...] This is a crime for which we have the right to arrest you but it’s before the federal prosecutor that you enter your plea… the Dubai police are on their way to arrest you.

The netizen Mohamed Ismael Akhbar has been detained since 19 February on a charge of insulting an official for criticizing Khlafan, the police chief, on social networks. A stateless person, he had condemned the corruption he had encountered in the course of his attempts to regularize his situation, and the failure of the police to take any action in response to his complaints. He has had not access to a lawyer and has been held in solitary confinement. A court is expected to issue a verdict on 1 April.

Meanwhile, the “UAE 5,” five activists who were arrested last year and given jail sentences for calling for democratic reforms, have not been given back their passports since their release on 28 November and their convictions have not been quashed, which they requested after getting a presidential pardon. The authorities have also taken no action in response to the complaints they filed against the people who waged a smear campaign against them.”

B-Kam.com has just launched; a search engine that brings all Egyptian shopping websites in one place to let shoppers search, compare prices and get the best deals, all from one place.

The site is first price-comparison shopping website in Egypt but not the first in the Arab world as there is Menwayn from Jordan.

On B-kam Shoppers search directly for any product and get results from all the shopping websites instantly. Price comparison of different sellers is so much easier.

Bkam? presents full information about each shopping website in terms of guarantees, delivery, terms of payment, and providing invoices.

However one note About Bkam is that it does not offer a compact view of the different sites that offer the product. You need to click on each one of the vendors site to search for info. It would be much better if it can provide one list showing the item price tag according to the shopping site that sells it.

Statistics show that almost 40% of internet users in the MENA region shop for their stuff online, an excellent opportunity for the online businesses to expand and dominate. With such an excellent potential, Mahmoud Abdel-Fattah, founder of Bkam?, found it necessary to provide a more efficient platform for the online businesses to capture more shoppers. Although the idea is so simple, the development wasn’t all that simple at all. Mahmoud says he owes a lot to eSpace Technologies for acting as a technical advisor throughout the development of B-Kam.com.
Bkam? also released their mobile version in parallel with the full one to allow offline shoppers to search for the best deals on-the-go. In a matter of days, a mobile application will be available to download from both the Apple Store and Android Market.
Sherif Nassar, founder and CEO of Nefsak.com says, “It is a great pleasure to see such a professional service like B-Kam in Egypt. It is not just a price comparison, but a tool for the customers to evaluate the value that they will get from their online shopping experience in just one step. The level of fairness and integrity of the team managing B-Kam, makes us at nefsak.com happy to cooperate with them.”

Bayt the leading job portal in the Arab world has redesigned putting much emphasis on it social offerings.

The new design offers a clean and streamed lined UI. A search bar has been added where you can search for Jobs, Salaries, and People. Resource tab has been added offering different resources that can help in career hunting and development.

Bayt has also worked on enhancing its features among them is auto upload a CV where Byte will read the CV after it is upload it. As it used to be manually filled.

Also Bayt has added CV and Application Insights, offering insights into things like How does your application rank? What keywords trigger your CV in employer searches?

To lure people to be more engaged and spur its social offering Bayt has added “Your Specialties” where users are asked to engage in discussions around their areas of Specialties.

I like the new design of Bayt it was needed.

What do you think of new Bayt Design?

Well true to his word 0xOmar has released umped info belonged to the Israeli airforces training and dod standards belonging to a virtual flight school that the Israeli airforce use and are associated with .

0xOmar says this is a retaliation for Israeli terror air raids against Gaza which killed around 25 people since Friday.

“Eighteen of the Palestinians killed since Friday were identified by medical officials as fighters and five as civilians.
At least 74 Palestinians, mostly civilians have been wounded.
“

a hefty 8.6 meg dump will take a while to trawl through just as much as the zionist pounded gaza “
the hackers involved in #opfreepalestine should be proud for their concerted effort at striking back aginst those that kill children and call them terrorist or that its an act of defence these are the excuses the zionist gives i really think israel shouls expect them ….
this guy may be the man to unite all hackers against the nazi zionist occupiers …”
a statement said.
The Egyptian revolution is achieving its objectives one after the other in the hard way, with paid souls and blood in the long march for justice, freedom and Independence from domestic and foreign tyranny and conspiracy.

However, Egyptian economy is not doing well. Egypt has a high level of poverty rates, around 40%, its economy is dependent in few things to earn hard currency: tourism, Swiss canal some Gas and what Egyptian workers outside Egypt send back home.

Beside basic human rights and political freedoms the economic case should be dealt with in order to achieve one of the revolution’s objectives: social justice. To that end Egypt must work hard to transform it self into a scientific production and excellence. Producing world class R&D projects that can produce world class startups that can solve problems in different avenues with innovative solutions, products and services.

Egypt has no shortage of great people and scientists like Dr. Ahmed Zewail a Nobel prize winner and a professor chemistry and professor of physics at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) as he has the right vision and plan with his City of Science and Technology. Which was conceptualized back in 1999 but was established right after the blessed Egyptian revolution.

The City of Zewail is becoming a reality now. It offers the right pillars that can help transform Egypt into scientific production and excellence, in helping bring innovation and the out break of innovative tech startups that can compete at the world level which in turn will bring hard currency to Egypt and provide employment to thousands of people and raise the standards of living for Egyptians.

The pillars for the The City are Zewail university, Research Institute , Technology Pyramid or Park, Think tank.

Technology Pyramid:

Will offer gifted entrepreneurs and scientist the opportunity to incubate and develop their new technologies and industries.

The technology Pyramid or technology Park will provide some financial assistance and appropriate space and will take in exchange a share of the startup equity which would help the city generate income while building world class tech companies that can penetrate the international markets.
The Park will also provide R&D center and will invite different multi national tech companies to come up and open research centers. It can do so since it can demonstrate to blue chip companies that it has the skilled work force necessary for such R&D centers to function.

Egyptians will benefit from working with multinationals with gaining more experience and expertise which in turn will help them launch their own tech satrtups. The technology Pyramid will work also as a commercialization arm for inventions coming from other pillars of the city namely the Research Institutes.

Research Institute:
Research Institute will provide researchfrontiers necessary to provide commercial innovative solutions to problems in these frontiers and they are:

Helmy Institute for Medical Sciences (HIMS)
Center for Aging and Associated Diseases
2. Institute for Nanoscience and Informatics (INI)
3. Institute for Imaging and Visualization (IIV)
4. Institute for Energy, Environment and Space (IEES)
5. Institute for Economics and Global Affairs (IEGA)
6. Institute for Virtual Education (IVE)
7. Institute of Basic Sciences (IBS)
Center for Theoretical Physics
Some fields of research will be particularly relevant to the needs of Egypt and the region. These include R&D in energy, information technology, medicine, and other areas relating to water resources and global climate change.

“In the initial phase, there will be up to twelve research institutes. With the passage of time and beyond its first decade, there may appear the need to create new research institutes, but the uniqueness and distinction of the institution must be strictly maintained”

The institutes will be open to anyone accepting students and researchers from anywhere in the world but priority will be given to Egyptians.

Zewail university:

The university will carefully train selected students in basic state-of-the-art science and engineering and offer them hands-on research opportunities. The total number of students will not exceed 5000 and any increase must be unanimously approved by the Board of Trustees. The university will be equipped with the most advanced tools and laboratories.

Students of the university will provide the minimum pool of scientists and researchers to carry on research in the different institutes and in launching state-of-the-art tech ventures that can be incubated at the tech park.

Think Tank:

Egypt faces a number of challenges and risks, among them is the Nile, power, housing and so forth. The think tank will carry on scientific analysis of major projects of development and for the assessment of national risks associated with them and they will be then presented to policy makers.

I am are very excited about city of Science and Technology it has the right tech and scientific ecosystems that Egypt needs in order to transform it into a scientific and tech center in the world. The project is registered as a not for profit and will be funded through 2 main means and endowment that will provide monetary resources from profits from its projects and from direct donations. The city did not achieve its objective in collecting the necessarily funds. It has collected around 10% of the money necessarily. It needs your help so if you believe in january25th revolution you should go ahead and donate here to this critical project for the future of Egypt. #EgyptCan

Mubawab , operating 17 local country websites across the Middle East and North Africa, announced today that it has received $850,000 in funding from Grupo Intercom, One of Spain’s l Web consortium, as well as from international business angels, to further develop classifieds portal for the Arab region. Well-known Web brands emerging from Spain that Grupo Intercom has previously backed include Softonic, eMagister, InfoJobs and BuyVIP.

Mubawab’s aim is to make it easier for people across the Middle East and North Africa to find everyday things online – from real estate to cars, jobs and household items.

The company also announced today that it is now serving 600,000 visitors per month and generating several thousand user-posted classified ads each day – after just 14 months of company operations. Mubawab’s content comes from users, as well as through feeds and partnerships with local businesses and portals.

Despite its rapid growth, Mubawab also faces unique challenges specific to the Middle Eastern market. Shadi el-Hajj, Mubawab CTO, explains: “The Arab online market is still young but with the popularity of social networking and mobile telephony, it’s maturing faster than the underlying economic infrastructure. For example, many countries in the region don’t have reliable street addresses but yet demand for location-based services is emerging. This often creates the need to really think outside the box with the technical solutions we go for.”
