Yahoo is Closing its Office in Amman Jordan

16 Oct, 2014

After closing its offices in Cairo, Yahoo Maktoob or Yahoo Middle East is closing its offices in Amman Jordan by end of the year.

Yahoo office in Jordan was the HQ of Maktoob before Yahoo’s acquisition. After the acquisition Yahoo kept Amman office and moved it to new location in Amman. The office had different type of employees mostly engineers.

The closure is a sad news for the IT sector and economy in Jordan and further underlines the hardship the IT sector in Jordan is going throw.

Intaj ICT Association of Jordan confirmed the news and released the following statement:

“Yahoo Maktoob decided on Oct 14, 2014 to close their office in Jordan by end of the year, this decision is part of Yahoo’s global efforts to streamline operations, Yahoo also acknowledges that Amman/Jordan has provided strong support for Yahoo in the Middle East and North Africa region with the acquisition of Maktoob, and Yahoo Maktoob’s operations will continue to be supported from their regional offices in Dubai and from other locations.  While related to Yahoo’s internal policies, it also underlines that Jordan needs to further work to make our market more attractive for global companies to stay”

We will contact Yahoo and update this post with what they will say.
