Updated: List of Top 10 Twitter Users in the Arab World, @QueenRania #1

10 Apr, 2010

Update 1: Aljazeera English has been added it is now #5
Update 2: from innowave. the company behind ArabTweeple  said that they “used a Twitter search engine that offer twitter search for people by location, and got the list by API calls, but right now, most of the informations is a bit outdated ( especially Followers count ) , from now on they will update those information directly from Twitter, and maybe create their own Twitter crawler to index all the 40K arabs on Twitter. ” 35,000-40,000 Arabs that SpotONPR counted on a report, but there is no final answer into the actual Arab users on Twitter. “

We just posted about ArabTweeple a directory listing Arab Twitter users, so I used it to manually crunch the list of top Arab Twitter users from all Arab countries according to the number of followers they have, as ArabTweeple is not up to date with the number of followers I manually entered every account to get the latest numbers.

The list reveals a number of facts: There is a huge gap between #1 most followed account in the Arab world for Queen Rania and the next  in the list who has 61,102 followers, 4 of the top users are from Jordan, 3 accounts are for companies, 4 of the top users are non-arabs and  (update 2: many have a higher following to followers  ratio . I have to note that a number of them havr a higher % of followers compared to the number of people they follow.

*apparently ,the number of followers has nothing to do with the number of people who communicate almost daily with you ,asking :”where re you friend ,missing you !” if u r not present for a day ! sharing thoughts with you & even some times they empower you on living comments if u have blog etc…
*If you are not one of the celebrities do not even dream to be followed by more than one million follower & u r following only 50 or 67 !!! except ,if you are writing some thing MAGICAL that nowhere they can find it !!!
*i m in twitter for almost 3 & 1/2 month, in 2 months lot of people was following me & i did not follow back ( i m not selfish ! hehe) simply i did not know the “Tac Tics”,so in few days they unfollow this way you lose friends & followers in the same time , simply every body expect from u to follow him back ,that is the game “scratch me i ll scratch u”!
this link can help new people to know them followers & non followers !

  4. GregBali  |  April 10th, 2010 at 11:43 PM #

Mr.Pigglesworth, #4 on your list is actually from a town called Lebanon in Tennessee, nothing to do with the country Lebanon.

  5. Hany Rahwan  |  April 11th, 2010 at 1:49 AM #

To be fair, Mr. Pigglesworth seems American, not Lebanese or Arab at all.

Also, I would recommend having a permanent list like this on your website. Let Arabs add in their Twitter id (and you approve they’re Arab) and have it rank them versus other Arabs.

  6. Beirut  |  April 11th, 2010 at 8:41 AM #

I have way more than many of these tweeple 🙂 @beiruta with 23,551 followers 🙂

  7. TripleM  |  April 11th, 2010 at 1:57 PM #

Why I’m not mentioned in the list I was the 1st to be followed by the Queen almost a year ago. Check this
    and this

    Dear Arabcrunch team,

You always amaze me with your stupidity. It’s obvious that you don’t know anything about how twitter works. This comparison is ridiculous and means nothing.

it’s obvious you followed a random procedure in determining the popularity of those people.

  9. Gaith Saqer  |  April 12th, 2010 at 10:06 PM #

@Beirut what is ur Twitter ID plz

@OMG did you read the first line of this post? obviously not: i used ArabTweeple to get the top list by followers and did a manual checkup into each one.

  10. Gaith Saqer  |  April 12th, 2010 at 10:12 PM #

@TripleM you are not in the list bc you have only 2,068 this list is based on the number of followers not my editorial like, last one in the list has 12,179 followers.

@sabine thanks for the suggestions 🙂

@GregBali and @Hany Rahwan Mr. Pigglesworth will be deleted from the list. thanks for the note, keep them coming 🙂

  11. Tarek Kassar  |  April 15th, 2010 at 12:04 AM #

    That’s ridiculous.

You announced personally the Arabtweeple.com site and that it is in beta and you ignorantly went after 5 minutes and made a report relaying on this 1 day old tool.

Isn’t there anyone else other than you who compile reports?

  12. Gaith Saqer  |  April 15th, 2010 at 12:55 AM #

Tarek did you read the first 2 lines of this post?

First I wanna thank all of AC team for there effort to take the Arab internet land-scape to the next level, you are doing a great job guys !! as for this list, let us first be clear about something: it’s quite hard to get those information, just try to gather those kind of info and you will see… , we at ArabTweeple; we used a Twitter search engine that give as Twitter users by location, so we used that to populate ArabTweeple, but the info are a bit outdated, and we are working on that, we will also add the ” add yourself ” functionality.

What a stupid and inaccurate list! Your writing skills also sucks. And you need to learn some English grammar and punctuation rules.
