TwitVid.com: Tweet your Videos to Twitter

24 May, 2009

If you have been using Twitter for a long time, you might know Twitpic, an add-on service to twitter that lets you tweet your pics. but what about video tweets?

Until recently there have not been any offerings, you had to go to video sharing sites like youtube, upload a video and then shorten the url and post it to twitter. But the san Francisco based company Eatlime.com, just released Twitvid.com a website service that simplifies the process through integration with twitter API to let you tweet videos almost in real-time.

All you need is to signup with your twitter user name and hit upload, and the video is tweeted to your twitter stream. Moreover, Twtivid allows you to upload videos directly from your mobile device.

Soon Twitvid will add a technology that allows real-time streaming, where your twitter followers can start watching the video immediately while you are uploading the video. TwtiVid will also offer an easy way to let you resume uploading if you lose your connection.

Twtivid also offers an application programming interface (API), which lets other companies integrate Twitvid.com’s service into their own offerings.

Twtivid.com competes with TwitVid.io a Y-Combinator backed startup, which was launched a day before TwitVid was launched.

Eatlime.com a video uploading and sharing service,  which has a patent-pending streaming technology is founded by  Mohammad Al Adham from Jordan and Adil Lalani from Pakistan. It’s funded by venture capital firm Draper Fisher Jurvetson and a group of angel investors, including Stanford’s Rajeev Motwani (early advisor to Google), Amidzad, former Google employees Georges Harik and Aydin Senkut, as well as XG Ventures, another group of former Googlers.

There are thousands of applications built on top of twitter’s API, many are not really noticed, but some are heavily used such as TweetDeck. The lesson learned here is that new twitter based service such as Twtivid, shows the importance of releasing an API, which allowes third part developer to develop new services you never thought of, thus providing more value to your users and shorting the development life cycle.
