Cool. Choice is important. Users generally make social network choices mainly based on community not technology only. Arabic speaking users will go to FB, Jeeran, or As7ab, etc if that's where they find their community/aspiring community. Whatever it takes to get more Arabic speaking people online is great. After that, it's up to us to choose where we want to be and what we want to do. Would be cool to have an Arabic version for this Ning community soon.

Well, you can see a lot of Arabic social Networking websites, and they don’t make a threat to each other, as most of them are used for dating.
And believe me a lot of the users who are using Jeeran or As7ab or … etc, already have facebook accounts, but they think of it as another place to get dates.

We do lack of real Arabic websites in ARABIC targeting the Arab speaking people. That’s what we are doing at Wikeez, now that facebook is also doing it, maybe we ll contribute to make a difference in the Arabic Internet !

For vertical social networks like urs, yes it is not a big threat, but for Arabic clones to facebook, it is a threat. bc they lost their advantage which is Arabic interface. I personally do not use any Arabic social network. I feel most general Arabic social networks are being used for dating!

To look at Maktoob and Jeeran, first Maktoob has strong Arabic offering beyond Social networking, while Jeeran has a strong Arabic blogging platform than Facebook notes, Jeeran biggest competitor in blogging is WordPress.com and Blogger bc both have Arabic interface, I feel the best blogging platform is wordpress.com but you can’t have Ad sense their to monetize your efforts, which is not very attractive for some people.
We here at AC proudly use WordPress self hosted version where we can do anything we want with it.

Facebook in arabic is a good thing and shows that this market is growing … good for us !
I don’t see it as a threat, more as an opportunity … most social arabic networks – including http://www.wikeez.com – produce original arabic content which facebook doesn’t. It will be an additional tool for more visibility on our contents !
