Osfoor an Alltop Useful Arabic Clone

31 Jan, 2009

Update: Osfoor website has been deactived and will be launched soon. we will let you know once it is.

Osfoor an Arabic word which mean Bird,  is exactly like what Guy Kawasaki’s Alltop is today: A news aggregator but in Arabic. Like Alltop the people behind Osfoor select websites and blogs and add them each to its selected category.  Once you are on the homepage, you get to see an alphabetic list, which help you to find the topic you want, with each topic listed under its respective alphabetical letter. Most of the functionalities of the websites is Ajax based which makes navigation easy and fun. In The letter “أ”  in Arabic you get (أخبار) news and (اسلام) Islam and economics (أقتصاد).  on  each category such as news you get the latest feed from each source, you just move the courser to the news story and a JavaScript will pop up the story details, though not all stories are detailed that is because this depends on the original source feed’s settings. The difference between Osfoor and all top is that besides it is Arabic, it displays to you a photo stream of each topic from flickr and video stream from YouTube.  Osfoor is an interesting startup, and it needed allot specially for me to discover hot Arabic blogs and websites on each category. But the downside is that most categories are not filled, something the people behind Osfoor should have thought of, when Alltop started,  it had few categories and then they added the alphabetical order once the categories number has increased tremnodsliy. ( it is worth mentioning that ArabCrunch is listed on 2 Alltop topics: Islam and Startup.) To suggest a topic or add your blog you can tweet it to Osfoor here.  It is worth mentioning that the website is still buggy and not all sections work, so I suggest to the owner of Osfoor to add the Beta tag : P. Ashraf Mansoor from Sudan is behind this project, he has also founded Twffaha before as a woman only job recruitment website in the Arab world.
