Internet City to be built in Jordan

24 Jul, 2008

Bassem Al Rusan Jordan’s Minister of ICT told the Jordanian Arabic news paper Addustour, that the company which will build the Internet City in Amman ( The Capital of Jordan) has started preparations to start its operations, but it is still waiting for Greater Amman  Municipality (GAM) to a allocate the location in Amman for city.

He also added that the expected investments in this project would reach USD 300 million.

This is a great news for Jordan, which I hope it will attract global ICT giants such as Microsoft, Google, Cisco, and Sun Microsystems, not just move their country offices to the Internet city, but also to open R&D (Research & Development) centers, which  will benefit them of lower HR costs compared to “Israel”, and if that happens it will be a big boost to the Jordanian economy and would help increase the technical skills of the Jordanian ICT labor, which would in turn increase the amount of startups in Jordan.

I suppose it depends on what is meant by internet city, but if it’s just half as good as the one in Dubai, then this is wonderful news.
